There are several decorative artists who are painting on paper. Perhaps these artists would be interested in a process I have developed, making it possible to complete a painting in acrylics or with permanent markers on paper, and transfer the layer of paint to canvas or wood, or glass.

I developed this process in the Seventies, and the transfer sheets I introduced in the market at the Hobby Industry Associations, HIA, 1972 annual trade show in Chicago, were the first transfer sheets ever.

Right now, my current version is being test produced by my Taiwan relation. The difference between these transfer sheets and common transfer sheets is important; with the Lift-a-Picture sheets, it is the original image layer that is transferred. Thus, a transfer to canvas of a painting or coloring made on the paper will become an original hand painting. On the other hand, with conventional transfer sheets, the transfer will be a scanned copy, and cannot be sold as an original. Furthermore, the process is rapid. Thus, a Decal Maker or T-shirt Printer may print the image(s) in offset or by digital means at high speed, and transfer the printed image(s) faster than with other processes.

The transfer is very simple.

Step # 1: paint, color or print a pattern on a triple coated paper, manufactured in Europe that I sell together with the transfer sheets. I call it Lift-a-Picture Transfer Paper-

Step # 2: Remove the transfer sheet's protective liner and position the sheet with its layer of adhesive in contact with the painting.

Step # 3: Submerge the laminate. After 5 - 10 minutes, a decorative painter can peel off the image paper backing. After 50 - 60 minutes, it will fall off by itself. In both cases, you have a decal or decals, which can be applied with heat or adhesive. This is the most rapid method for Decal Manufacturers or T-shirt Printers to obtain decals,

Heat Application by Decorative painter: Position the decal with the reverse image in contact with the canvas. With a hand iron, press over the decal for 60 seconds with the iron at "cotton" temperature. When cool, peel off the decal thin protective support. The transfer is now completed

Heat Application by Decal Manufacturers or T-shirt Printers: In a heat transfer machine (commercial heat press), press the decal for 20 seconds at a temperature between 160 and 180 deg.C. When cool, peel off the decal thin protective support. The transfer is now completed

Adhesive Application: Coat the decal reverse image with a suitable adhesive. Position the adhesive coated decal with the adhesive surface in contact with the substrate. When dry, peel off the decal thin protective support. The transfer is now completed

The decals, when wet, may cling to glass and walls. If clinging to a painted surface, they will integrate in the painting layer after about 2 hours. This may be used for transfers without heat or adhesive.

Product Selling Benefits

Sales Advantages:

Decorative Painters:

With this process, they can lift off the very image layer of a painting or colored pattern, and transfer it to canvas, wood or glass, etc., as a hand painting. A transfer with a common transfer paper becomes a scanned copy.

Decal Makers and T-shirt Printers:

They can print the image in offset or by digital means, at great speed (10,000 – 15,000 an hour) The Lift-a-Picture ETF sheets are then applied and the laminates dye cut in a laminating and dye cutting press. All the dye cut laminates, or the number that can be handled at a time, say 500, are then submerged. After less than an hour, 500 decals have been completed, ready to be ironed on or pasted on. This is a faster and less labor incentive process than any other existing process.
