The diffuser can often be a very difficult maintenance issue. When using evaporator cooler it seems easy and very straightforward but often it takes the use of multiple people, using improvised tools, to hold it in place. Each time the diffuser has to be removed it leaves damage to the ceiling and makes it more difficult to reinstall. If you wish to clean the diffuser throughout the year you either have to remove it, or more often climb on a ladder or chair while cleaning it, so often this chore goes undone. With a filter added you can decrease the amount of pollutants coming in from outside, I have noticed that often the carpet underneath the diffuser is very dirty.

In my personal experiences having to do this chore every spring and fall as a child was dreaded, not just because it was difficult but our diffuser was stationed above a stairwell, as many are, therefore it was also very dangerous. Since I've installed one in my current residence I can do this chore in less than a minute and it is fairly easy to take down and clean if it gets dirty.
