The Molding Miracle is a brand new product designed to end the frustration and aggravation involved when installing any type of base molding in your house. It’s application is perfect for pine, paint or stain grade and even composite molding. The product is actually an extrusion molded composition of polymer and pvc type materials that has a shape similar to a triangle with a break in the center of the long side. The height of the product is approximately 1 3/8 " and the two sides are 1 1/4 " with legs approximately 7/8" toward the center. This patent pending design allows the product to free stand in the corner and freeing the craftsman to work and insert the base molding into the corner without assistance.
You have, I’m sure, been frustrated when installing baseboard trim in the corners of your house. No matter how well you cut the trim, the 45° angles don’t ever seem to match up. The Molding Miracle is designed to end that problem. Typically, let’s take for example an 8’ wall, when the walls are built, the finished wall height is about 97 ¼ inches. After the installation of the ceiling panels and the wall panels, about 96 ½ inches of the wall is covered, and the indention for the drywall joint tapers up to about 2” above the sub floor level. When the baseboard is installed in this tapered area, the trim nailer “draws” the trim into the recess or indented area causing an unsightly gap in the bottom of the trim. This has been a longstanding problem requiring additional time and resources to correct. The worst case scenario, the baseboard was left loose in the corner only to be discovered when the carpet or some other type of floor covering was installed. Until now, it was necessary to cram cardboard, or drive nails into the wall or sub floor to hold out the trim to the proper plane. These “quick fixes” took time and didn’t always work, requiring extra time caulking the cracks before painting and touchup. Even after caulking, depending on the quality of the caulk, room temperature and humidity levels, the caulk would crack and dry out requiring more time for repairs and painting.
