Chameleon Cable Clips and Spiral Wraps, are color-changing products that attach to virtually any standard size electrical cord sets (including; extension cords, appliance and tool cords, power strips, etc) and will effectively alert the user by changing colors (green to orange at 110F) if it senses a hazardous overheating cord.

The primary purpose of these products is to provide a reversible color-changing alert if and when the flexible electrical cable it covers incurs a heat producing condition. Heat producing conditions are most often electrically induced such as when there is excessive electrical resistance occurring in the conductor. Frequently, this unsafe condition is caused by the user unintentionally over-loading the conductor, frays or breaks in the conductor, corroded or poor connections or using end devices that are failing.

All wire, cable and connectors are especially vulnerable at connections points where ‘asperity points’ and ‘fretting’ (i.e. weak links in the conductor) occur. All products can be customized for specific temperature change, color, shape and polymer. The products have huge potential in applications to improve the safety in hybrid electrical vehicle battery systems to uses in energy conservation such as in older urban underground high voltage transmission lines and junction boxes.
