There are three basic types of filters: Sand, Diatomaceous Earth (DE) and Cartridge. Our FILTER BAG is used for the Cartridge filter, therefore requires a filter powder according to the owners pool guidelines.

The pool pump pulls the water to the pool filter through the pool drain. The skimmer box contains a basket that stops large debris from entering the pool filter. The pool drain has a cap that does the same function.

When the water reaches the filter system, there is another basket to catch any large debris that got through drain. When using a pool filter that has a cartridge made of cloth fiber, the cartridge collects the tiny particles of dirt and debris. The water then runs through a cartridge that contains chlorine tablets, further sanitizing the water. It is then pumped back into the pool through the return valves.

The filter consists of a pleated cartridge that looks similar to an air filter in a car. The filter traps particles as small as 25 microns. About once a month pressure builds in a filter and a cartridge cleaning is necessary for proper operation. The cartridge must be replaced every four to five years, because every time the cartridge is cleaned, it becomes less effective. Therefore only clean when necessary. If you don't clean the filter when the pressure increases, it can cause damage and possibly ruin the filter. The FILTER BAG serves as a fix so there won’t be a need to replace the cartridge filter, even if the cartridge is broken. Once the cartridges are cleaned, the FILTER BAG would be placed on each individual cartridge and serve as a repaired filter. The FILTER BAG will protect the cartridge it while still performing the same filtering process.
The length of time between filter cleanings is called the filter cycle. As time goes by, the filter cartridge breaks down and or clogs up, and may indicate that it's time to change the cartridge.
A filter cartridge may only last 3-5 years, depending on the work it has been asked to do. Sometimes cartridges break or leaks occur and when leaks happen it is due to the filtering medium getting damaged. Eventually, it will need a replacement, and a good indicator of when to change it is the length of your filter cycle, however, the FILTER BAG has proven to be effective as a means to not only protect the cartridge but also prolong its filter cycle, whether it’s broken or leaking.
