Purpose of Invention
To prevent children of a young age from opening a permanent marker or other writing instruments.

Brief Description of Invention
The invention is a writing instrument whose cap locks on to the base of the instrument to ensure it may be difficult to open for children of a young age. The younger the child and less motor skills he/she/ possesses than the more likely the device is to prevent the child from opening it. The main idea and first product is planned to use this for permanent markers and we plan on using the locking mechanism for other writing instruments in the future.

Description of Problem(s) Solved by Invention
1. It will help reduce the chance of children choking on caps of writing instruments since the cap will be locked on to the base of the marker when closed and also be able to be locked on to the bottom of the marker when open 2. It will also prevent kids from writing on valuables such as walls or other expensive belongings.

How the Invention is an Improvement Over Existing Technology
Currently there are no permanent markers or other writing instruments that have a built in locking mechanism for the cap to lock on to the base of the marker. In addition, there are also no writing instruments available where the cap locks on to the bottom of the base of the marker when the marker is open and cap is off, which this new modification of the invention will do as well.

Parents of young children, teachers at preschools, public & private schools, daycares, and/or anyone as gifts for one of the previously described groups

Benefits to Users of Invention
Users would reap the benefits of the invention just by simply buying it and having it in there households, schools, etc. They would realize the benefit of it when a child gets their hands on the device but can not open it because of the built in lock

Product Selling Benefits

There are 2 main selling benefits. 1. With a cap that locks on to the base of the marker there is a far less chance that a child of young age will be able to get the cap off and potentially choke and die as a result of swallowing the cap. If we can save just one child's life by this product being the marker a child picks up instead of a regular marker, then in my eyes this product will be a success.
2. The more obvious selling benefit is that the child will not be able to write on any walls, furniture, or valuable belongings and costs parents and teachers a lot of time and money trying to clean or replace the item the child chose for destruction.
